UPDATE: The university made the announcement in a press statement on Saturday that a student at Cal Poly had passed away on Friday night after suffering what appears to be a brain aneurysm shortly after eating supper with her family prior to her passing. According to the announcement, Sofia Padoan, a Walnut Creek resident who was in her third year of studying nutrition, had returned to her residence after the lunch when she fainted.

She passed away in the emergency room of the hospital, where she had been transported to. Padoan was a member of the following organizations: the Italian Cultural Association, the Spanish Club, and the Nutrition Club. She also served as the president of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Also, she was working toward obtaining a minor in Italian.
