William Lucky, Correction Officer arrested In connection to road-rage shooting on I-691 in Meriden

William Lucky, Arrested – State police arrested a Meriden correction officer for murdering a man in a road-rage shooting on Interstate 691. A 49-year-old Middlefield man was shot and died on Jan. 14. State troopers arrived to I-691 East near exit 2a in Meriden at 8:08 p.m. for a disturbance and found a road-rage shooting. State police said Middlefield resident Scott Kracke was shot and died in a local hospital. Police arrested 32-year-old North Haven resident William Lucky for murder Tuesday. He claimed to be a CT Department of Correction officer.

Lucky informed police in an arrest warrant that he drove away because he had a child and was “afraid the other party would come after him.” He gave police his gun. State police said Kracke and Lucky confronted each other outside their cars. Lucky pulled a gun and fired, witnesses told police. Lucky fled and reported the assault to Hamden Police. At the location, police collected 18 shot casings. The Chief Medical Examiner classified Kracke’s death a homicide due to gunshot wounds to his head, body, and extremities.

On Jan. 19, Lucky was placed on paid administrative leave pending the Department of Correction and State Police investigation. Officials said Lucky has worked at New Haven Correctional Centre since December 2018. AFSCME Local 1565, which represents 1,800 state prison staff, said the incident was devastating for everyone. “At this time, we will allow the investigative process to take place,” President Mike Vargo stated. Lucky is on a $2.5 million bond for murder. Wednesday is his court date.
