Dionne Price Death – Fine resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, Dionne Price has passed away tragically. Reports say she died after battling cancer for a while. Her family and the whole community of US Food and Drug Administration mourn her death. The MHS Class of ’89 confirmed the reports of her death to be true following a Facebook post that was published on Friday, February 23, 2024. She was confirmed dead on Thursday night.
Who was Dionne Price?
Dionne Price is quite a well-know figure in the world of education. She was a significant figure in the history of African Americans. In other words, Dr. Dionne L. Price is the first African-American to graduate from Emory University with a doctorate in biostatistics. Dionne L. Price is a statistician from the United States who currently holds the position of division director in the Office of Biostatistics within the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research of the Food and Drug Administration located in the United States. “used in the regulation of anti-infective, anti-viral, ophthalmology, and transplant drug products,” her division offers statistical guidance to the pharmaceutical industry.
Price was not only of African-American descent but also spent her childhood in Portsmouth, Virginia, where her mother worked as a teacher. After completing her undergraduate degree at Norfolk State University with a concentration in applied mathematics, she went on to receive a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina and a doctoral degree from Emory University in the year 2000. Amita Manatunga served as her dissertation advisor, and with the completion of her research, she became the first African-American to acquire a PhD in biostatistics from Emory University. Her dissertation was titled Survival Models for Heterogeneous Populations with Cure. Following the completion of her doctoral studies, she began working for the Food and Drug Administration.
Dionne Price Professional Recognition
StatFest 2016 was a one-day conference held at Howard University and hosted by the American Statistical Association Committee on Minorities in Statistics. The purpose of the conference was to encourage students from underrepresented groups to pursue careers in statistics. Price was the main speaker at the event. 2018 marked the year that she was honored with the title of Fellow of the American Statistical Association. “The American Statistical Association (ASA) has chosen her to serve as its 118th president,” the announcement read. Beginning on January 1, 2022, she will begin serving as president-elect for a period of one year; her term as president will begin on January 1, 2023. To be a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellows class for the year 2022, she was chosen for consideration. It is expected that Price will be the first African-American to hold the presidency of the ASA.
Dionne Price Education
Diane received her elementary education at Hodges Manor Elementary School, her secondary education at W. E. Waters Jr. High School, and her high school diploma from Manor High School Portsmouth in 1989, where she was the valedictorian and completed in first place across the board. She was such a brilliant individual who never failed to do what she set out to do.

She never failed to provide genuine and affectionate support. “Dionne never missed a single week.” It is possible that she missed a handful of days, but our schedule seemed to be the same from high school through college all the way up to our final hello, farewell, love you Dee, keep on looking up Passah Flemingzzz….and a great deal more. I would like to express my gratitude to Dionne for being the friend who will remain in my life forever. There will never be a time when the Price family is not my family; in fact, some of the extended family members have always been like family to me.
