Jason Finkelstein Car Accident –  On the afternoon of Thursday, February 8, 2024, emergency response teams swiftly mobilized to Hollywood, Maryland, following reports of a harrowing motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Hollywood Road and McIntosh Road. The scene was characterized by a vehicle engulfed in flames, necessitating urgent intervention.

A Maryland State Trooper, upon encountering the scene, demonstrated remarkable courage and selflessness, bravely rescuing at least one occupant from the burning vehicle. In the process, the trooper sustained minor injuries, underscoring the inherent risks faced by first responders in the line of duty. He was identified as Jason Finkelstein.

Medical personnel immediately sprang into action, requesting the deployment of two Maryland State Police Helicopters to transport two critically injured patients to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. Despite the valiant efforts of all involved, both patients required urgent medical attention at an area trauma center due to the severity of their injuries.

Amidst the chaos, a 24-year-old female occupant was evaluated for smoke inhalation but fortunately did not require transportation to a medical facility. However, the gravity of the situation remained palpable as troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that the operator of the St. Mary’s County Department of Emergency Services vehicle had suffered a sudden medical emergency, resulting in the vehicle veering off the roadway and colliding with a substantial tree. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of emergencies and the critical importance of swift and coordinated emergency response efforts.

A GoFundMe page has been created by Jessica Finkelstein to help alleviate the financial burden Jason is expected to face due to the high costs of his specialized rehabilitation and ongoing care. As the page indicates, Jason remains in the intensive care unit. This tragedy has undoubtedly been a turbulent ordeal for both Jason and our family. The sight of our sibling in excruciating pain, enduring numerous injuries, and requiring numerous operations has been heartbreaking. For us, Jason has always appeared invincible, like Superman—always on the move, prioritizing the assistance of others over his own—so it is heartbreaking to see him now grapple with the repercussions of this injury on his future. The amputation of Jason’s right limb is a life-altering event, and we want his recovery, which we are certain will be lengthy and fraught with obstacles, to be his only concern.

Now that Jason has dedicated his entire existence to community service and assisting others, it is our responsibility to assist him. Jason enjoyed practicing sports and spending time with his dog Rosie while growing up in Staten Island. He holds Binghamton and SUNY Upstate Medical University diplomas with pride. Jason completed his EMS fellowship at Johns Hopkins University and his residency at Morristown Medical Center. At present, Jason holds the position of Emergency Room physician in Virginia and serves as the EMS Medical Director for two jurisdictions in Maryland.
