Ed Mell Death – Well-known Arizona Painting Legend Ed Mell has sadly passed away. He died on Thursday 22nd February 2024. He was confirmed dead through a Facebook post that reads “An American painter. An Arizona icon. Today we mourn the loss of artist Ed Mell (1942–2024). As a true friend and supporter of Phoenix Art Museum and Men’s Arts Council, and our Arizona community, we extend our sympathies to his family and friends”.  The circumstances surrounding the actual cause of Ed Mell’s death has not been revealed.

Ed Mell Birth and Education

Arizona artist Ed Mell was honored with the prestigious “Heart of the West” lifetime achievement award at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum in 2020. His renowned painting, “Ganado Clouds,” a part of the DCWM’s permanent collection, is currently on display until Sunday, March 10. Born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1942, Ed Mell’s formative years were steeped in the diverse flora, fauna, and landscapes of his beloved Arizona. Despite his early fascination with cars, Mell pursued his passion for art at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California, focusing on graphic art. Following his graduation, he ventured into the bustling art scene of New York City, serving as a junior art director at the renowned advertising agency Kenyon and Echardt in 1967.
